Percutaneous Invasive Neuromodulation Mallorca

This is a minimally invasive technique that allows us to work directly on the dysfunctional peripheral nervous system, stimulating the transmission of that nerve, helping to reduce acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain, and improving neuromuscular function, motor control, and muscle recruitment patterns.

We introduce percutaneously acupuncture or dry puncture needles in the vicinity of the peripheral nerve and apply a low-intensity electric current with different frequencies (from 1Hz-2Hz-8Hz-80Hz). For more precision and safety this technique is ultrasound-guided.

This technique is relatively new, but it has already achieved great results in clinical practice and has a promising future in scientific research.

Dry Needling Calviá Mallorca

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that involves the insertion of thin, solid needles into specific points in the body, typically targeting trigger points or areas of muscular tension. Despite the similarity in the use of needles, dry needling is distinct from acupuncture, as it is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles rather than traditional Chinese medicine concepts.

Dry needling often focuses on trigger points, which are tight knots within muscles that can cause pain and referred pain in other parts of the body. The insertion of needles into these trigger points aims to elicit a local twitch response, helping to release muscle tension and improve flexibility. The needles create a microtrauma in the muscle tissue, promoting a local healing response. Dry needling may stimulate neural pathways, modulating pain signals and promoting the release of endorphins (natural painkillers).

Dry needling is often used to manage musculoskeletal pain, including conditions such as myofascial pain syndrome, muscle strains, and tendonitis. By addressing muscle tightness and trigger points, dry needling may contribute to improved joint range of motion and flexibility.

The needles used in dry needling are very thin, minimizing discomfort during insertion. Patients may feel a brief, mild discomfort or muscle twitch during needling. Responses to dry needling can vary among individuals, and its effectiveness may depend on the specific condition being treated.

Dry needling should be performed by trained healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists or chiropractors, who have received appropriate education and certification. Sterile, single-use needles are essential to minimize the risk of infection.

It’s important for individuals considering dry needling to consult with their healthcare provider to determine whether it is a suitable option for their specific condition.
